I am excited to introduce the latest anti-aging treatment.

SELPHYL® is a patented, U.S. FDA approved system for the safe and rapid preparation of Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM), a proven technology that we use to correct the effects of skin aging. There have been more than 45,000 procedures performed worldwide. I collect a small vial of blood, then separate and concentrate your own platelets and fibrin to form a matrix. The resulting PRFM matrix is injected into the desired treatment area of the face or body to stimulate collagen production, which promotes the increase of volume and rejuvenation of the skin through a process of targeted tissue re-generation.

Because Nothing Is More Natural Than You…

The PRFM that is prepared with SELPHYL® is autologous, meaning it uses your own cells to achieve remarkable results. Platelets are known to contain factors which your body uses to trigger cell migration and proliferation to rejuvenate and increase skin volume. You can’t turn back the clock, but you can re-wind it naturally with the SELPHYL® System.

Natural, Lasting Effects…

As soon as SELPHYL® prepared PRFM is administered, growth factors are released into the skin through a sustained mechanism. Studies have shown that platelet growth factors are released for up to 7 days, supporting collagen production and dermal matrix reconstruction. It is thought that SELPHYL® treats a root cause of skin aging by triggering the production of new cells and collagen.

Pronounced effects occur approximately three weeks after the administration of SELPHYL®. You will enjoy visible improvement and regeneration with long lasting effects. Typical results can last up to 2 years!

Fast, Easy, and Safe…

SELPHYL® is administered in my office in a procedure that takes approximately 20 minutes. There is no possibility of an allergy, toxicity or rejection. Desired results may be achieved in just one visit. Call for a complimentary consultation to see if SELPHYL® prepared PRFM is right for you, especially if you desire a natural solution to looking younger! We are waiting to hear from you: 312-440-3100. www.drpielet.com.

Have you been thinking about having a cosmetic surgery? The economy has certainly put a damper on a lot of plans for elective cosmetic surgery. Now you don’t have to wait. So many patients have chosen not to use their cash or credit cards and finance instead.

Yes, you can finance cosmetic surgery! It’s an affordable and sensible option…. This trend continues to grow especially in these economically challenging times.

A major player in the cosmetic surgery financing game is CareCredit www.carecredit.com. They have been around for years and are backed by G.E. Money Bank.

With CareCredit, you have the option of doing a 0% interest plan or stretching it out for up to 60 months. So, a common procedure such as silicone gel breast augmentation can be as low as $141 per month.

CareCredit has made the process quick and easy. To apply, you simply answer a few questions by going to their website at www.carecredit.com, calling them at 800-365-8295 or applying in our office. Any method you use will give you an immediate answer.

Once you are approved, you can use it to pay for all or a portion of your surgical fees and still have money in the bank. CareCredit gives you a line of credit that can be used for cosmetic surgery in our office or for any other medical practice that accepts Care Credit such as vision correction, dentistry or even with your veterinarian.

So, if you have been considering getting a cosmetic procedure and were uncertain about how you would pay for it or you just did not want to spend your money up front, consider financing as a smart way to go.

If you have more questions or to set up a consultation to see Dr. Pielet, please contact Caryle in our office at 312-440-3100 or via email at info@drpielet.com

American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports almost 10 Million Cosmetic Procedures in 2009

NEW YORK, NY (March 09, 2010) – Almost 10 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2009, according to statistics released today by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The Aesthetic Society, which has collected multi-specialty procedural statistics since 1997, says the overall number of cosmetic procedures has increased 147 percent since the tracking of the statistics first began. The most frequently performed nonsurgical procedure was injections of Botulinum Toxin Type A (including Botox and Dysport) and the most popular surgical procedure was breast augmentation.
“Plastic surgery is feeling the effects of the recession, just like many other sectors of the marketplace,” said Renato Saltz, MD, Aesthetic Society President. “However, repeat patients and those putting off surgery, are likely the reason for the small growth in non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Growth in demand will likely return as the recession eases and baby boomer’s offspring begin to explore surgical options.”

Please write this letter to your senator. It is very important!!

Dear Senator ______,

HEALTHCARE PLAN IN THE SENATE WILL UNFAIRLY DISCRIMATE AGAINST US!

I am writing you today about an issue that affects everyone who utilizes plastic surgery services for anything from Botox to Tummy Tucks.

The healthcare bill approved by the US Senate this weekend, Page 2045 Sec. 9017, Excise Tax on Elective Cosmetic Medical Procedures included in the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This dense legalese translates to a tax on all cosmetic procedures as partial payment for the healthcare overhaul our current administration is attempting to implement.

The problem is that we would be paying this tax, the FIRST time this country has levied a tax on patients for medical procedures. This Bill is objectionable in many ways, including:

This is a discriminatory tax. According to the Aesthetic Society Annual Statistics, 91% of all cosmetic procedures are requested by women

This will not have considerable consequences on the wealthiest patients but, as usual, affects the middle class. We working women, soccer moms, and scores of others who carefully save and budget to improve our appearance and self esteem will be penalized for doing so.

Procedures such as breast reduction that have been cited in the literature for improving self esteem and quality of life would be taxed as well.

Our doctor as tax collector: This provision places physicians in the role of tax collector and holds physicians liable should an individual fail or refuse to pay the tax. That is not the relationship we want with our medical provider!

Please, do not allow this portion of the tax bill to pass!

Sincerely,

Latisse is a FDA approved prescription solution that treats hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough eyelashes) making them longer, thicker, and darker.

The nightly application is quite simple. A sterile applicator is supplied to deliver Latisse to the upper lid eyelash margin, very similar to cosmetic eyeliner.

The active ingredient (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) was originally prescribed as eyedrops for the treatment of glaucoma. Any infrequent side effects from its use to treat glaucoma (such as lid or iris darkening) have not been experienced with the cosmetic use of Latisse.

The lash improvement is gradual, maximum results may take up to 2 months. The use of any eye make-up is not interrupted during this process.

My patients have been very pleased to enjoy the lashes they have always desired. Please call or make an office visit to find out if you are a candidate, as well as for more information. My phone number is (312) 440-3100.

Why do people buy fake Rolex watches? Price, obviously. Is there a difference in the product? Yes, obviously. The fake will last a few months and either fall apart or stop working while the real one will probably outlast all of us. So why even spend a cent on the cheap imitation? Rolex has been so successful in creating a quality product and brand that everybody wants to copy them. The same holds true of plastic surgeons. The field of cosmetic plastic surgery is hot, very hot! We are it, the real thing, the real plastic surgeons-the problem we are facing is the knock-off doctors who want to be us, and compete with us and sell a genuine fake product. Unfortunately the public does not know our brand well enough to know the difference. They think they are getting the real thing and it is too late after the fact. It is one thing to buy fake watch on the streets, it is quite another to think you’re getting a real plastic surgeon and later find out that your doctor is an emergency room physician, a gynecologist or a cosmetic skin specialist doing surgery or someone else who may not have any surgical training at all. This philosophy goes against our own professional Hippocratic oath, first, do no harm. It seems obvious that if you are not trained in plastic surgery, you should not do it. But when money enters the equation, even the most levelheaded physician can come down with a type of heatstroke called money fever and they hang out their faux surgeon shingle.

Just like fake watches, how do you measure the quality? The fake one doesn’t hold up or have a warranty, and there isn’t anyone to fix it when it breaks. The real thing is a piece of workmanship by a skilled craftsman who knows what to do when there are complications or when it breaks. We need to be providing the very best quality for patients and we must demand excellence of ourselves. It is also our responsibility to educate the public and to make them aware of false and deceptive advertising so that they can distinguish a true board-certified plastic surgeon from the vast sea of genuine fakes.

Choose safely, Choose wisely, Choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Normal sweating is needed to regulate your body’s temperature; however in people suffering from hyperhidrosis, sweating exceeds the body’s need for physiological thermal regulation. This sweating is often uncontrollable, embarrassing and not anticipated. It commonly involves the underarms, palms, feet and groin.

Hyperhidrosis can have devastating emotional effects on one’s individual life. The constant visible underarm staining on clothing can be socially and professionally debilitating. Hyperhidrosis can also have severe physiological consequences such as cold and clammy hands, dehydration, and skin infections secondary to maceration of the skin.

Fortunately with the recent advances in medicine, many forms of treatment are available to treat hyperhidrosis. Medications, topical antiperspirants, iontophoresis, Botox and surgery have been tried to treat hyperhidrosis

One of the more common treatments involves Botox injections; Botox Cosmetic® is a popular medication used to diminish facial wrinkles. When injected beneath the skin in areas of profuse sweating, Botox acts by temporarily blocking neurotransmitters that stimulate sweat production. A typical 15 minute office treatment last 6-12 months. For further information, please call 312-440-3100 for a complimentary consultation.

I am thrilled to announce a new Referral Rewards Program (RRP). The program is based on the actual number of referrals to our office. The more people you refer, the more referral rewards dollars you will earn.

You will automatically earn 25 RRP dollars for each patient referral. In order to qualify for even more RRP dollars, your referral must come into our office for a consultation and actually schedule and complete a surgical procedure. Each RRP dollar can be used towards any medical, surgical or skincare service in our office. You can also redeem RRP dollars for 50% off skincare products *.

If you redeem your RRP dollars, you are still eligible for subsequent reward dollars for additional referrals. RRP dollars are cumulative and there is currently no expiration date. At anytime, you can contact our office to find out how many RRP dollars you have earned.

I hope you take advantage of our new and exciting Referral Rewards Program. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

Rodger Wade Pielet, M.D.

We all want to use skincare products that take care of our skin’s overall appearance and health! There are so many products out there it boggles the mind! What to use, what to choose use…start out by cleansing the skin with a mild soap-free cleanser. Then apply your corrective serum/lotion followed by your SPF 30 in the day. At night repeat excluding or replacing the SPF with a hydrator/moisturizer that works for your particular skin type. Most people are a combination of normal to oily or normal to dry. Not sure? That’s where a skincare professional like myself comes in…I am a wealth of knowledge and experience! And it still excites me to help you reach your best skin health with the right combination of products. Skincare treatments may be introduced to achieve and maintain the best results sooner than later. More on that at a later date!

Ask yourself how happy you are with the results you are getting from the skincare you are currently using. If you don’t see an improvement in the first few weeks (when used as directed) but certainly within a 30-day skin cycle it may be time to re-evaluate your skincare regime.

Rodger Wade Pielet, MD, Custom Skincare contains ingredients that influence the biological function of the skin. Our products are medically directed and a blend of botanical ingredients paired with the top combination of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals (cosmeceuticals) that are available in the personal care industry. Call 312-440-3100 for a complimentary skincare consultation; you’ll be amazed at the results.
