Genioplasty (commonly called chin reshaping surgery) involves either the use of a chin implant or repositioning the chin portion of the lower jaw (sliding genioplasty). Dr. Pielet is one of the few surgeons experienced at performing sliding genioplasty and is sought out nationally and abroad for his expertise. Not only can a weak or recessive chin be enhanced, but also, a prominent chin can be reduced or the vertical height of the lower face can be adjusted to achieve better facial balance. Generally this operation can help correct birth defects and heredity issues. This is often combined with rhinoplasty.
Many times the facial imbalance may be related to other facial features such as the nose, cheeks or lower jaw. Procedures to correct these imbalances may be combined with a rhinoplasty to achieve overall facial harmony.

Dr. Pielet is pleased to offer computer imaging for people interested in genioplasty, as well as other procedures, as part of the initial consultation.
What to expect during the recovery period:
- Soft diet followed by oral rinse for first 2 weeks
- Chin sling or support might be used for 2-5 days
- Minor discomfort that is controlled with medication
- Light activity or exercise for 4 weeks post procedure
- Resume full activity after 6 weeks post procedure
Dr. Pielet is a gifted Chicago plastic surgeon who offers other facial plastic surgery and facial rejuvenation procedures for men and women in addition to rhinoplasty (nose surgery). He has obtained excellent results for Chicago facelift, brow lift, otoplasty (ear surgery), and neck lift patients.
